Consumption can be understood as the act of using resources to satisfy various needs and desires. In this issue we take a broad perspective on all that can be consumed: natural resources, energy, products, services, time, media, advertisements, information, clothes, foods, and drinks – and truly all kinds of things imaginable, you name it. But have you ever thought about how all these forms of consumption, also is a way of production?
The act of consuming is the act of creating. Just as symbolically as the trees consume water, carbon, and minerals to produce itself, we consume and produce ourselves – biologically, socially and culturally. To consume is, so to say, intrinsic to life. The tricky question is: how can we balance our consumption – of energy, natural resources, foods, materials – with earths ways of consuming and producing the foundation for life?
With this magazine, I hope you enjoy a journey through all different kinds of insights to the theme of Consumption, with «TIK» at its core– may you be inspired and surprised, let it spark some reflections and encourage different or even new perspectives.
